FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW DOMINION CHORALE TO END 35TH SEASON WITH ORFF’S CARMINA BURANA

On Sunday, April 26, 2026 at 4:00 p.m., New Dominion Chorale will present Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Brahms’

Liebeslieder Waltzes, accompanied by Thomas Pandolfi and Frank Conlon on dual pianos and a percussion ensemble.

The Langley High School Madrigals, Caroline Player, Choir Director, is the guest youth ensemble. The concert will take

place at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center, 3915 East Campus Drive in Alexandria, Virginia.

Dr. Casey Cook, Guest Conductor, will lead the 130-voice chorus and percussion ensemble in Orff’s widely performed 25-

movement cantata based on 13th century secular poems, focusing on fate, love, and earthly pleasures. It is known for its

massive orchestration, primal rhythms, and the iconic "O Fortuna" opening. The work is popular world-wide because of

irresistible melodies, and high-energy, accessible, and dramatic tones. The three distinguished soloists are soprano Tess

Ottinger, tenor Allan Palacios Chan, and baritone Collin Power.

New Dominion Chorale, concluding its 35nd season, has distinguished itself amid the crowded choral music scene in the

Washington area. Praised by The Washington Post as “opulent, precise and powerful,” it operates as a “singers’

cooperative” without paid management, and no auditions are required to join. New Dominion Chorale has presented all of

the large works for chorus and orchestra by the major composers, as well as presenting the first performances of works

by NDC Founder and Artistic Director Thomas Beveridge, notably his massive Symphony of Peace and his Yizkor

Requiem, which, since its premiere by the Chorale, has received over 26 performances in the United States and Europe

and has been recorded twice for the Naxos label: by the Choral Arts Society of Washington, directed by Norman

Scribner, and by the chorus and orchestra of St. Martin in the Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner.

Thomas Beveridge continues to serve as NDC’s Artistic Director, having retired from conducting this past December with

the performance of Handel’s Messiah. Maestro Beveridge has had a distinguished musical career and is recognized as

one of the Washington area’s most versatile musicians: solo singer, pianist, teacher, conductor, and composer-arranger.

His over 700 original compositions and arrangements have been accepted by George Mason University for archival

deposit in the University library.

Tickets for the concert may be purchased in advance by going to www.newdominion.org and clicking on the Purchase

Tickets button. Tickets will also be available at the door at the time of the performance for $40 general admission, $35

seniors 62+, and $20 students 12-18, with open seating in the concert hall. There is free parking at this event. For more

information, please go to www.newdominion.org or president@newdominion.org, or call 202-244-7191.
